the city that captured my heart
Vienna, Austria
Vienna may boast grand palaces and a rich musical heritage, but beneath its elegant facade lies a city that often feels as cold and unwelcoming as its winter winds.

Vienna, my heart's conqueror
Writing about Vienna is tough because there's so much to say, and I hardly know where to start. I lived there for almost two years, and leaving was bittersweet; I don’t regret moving to Auckland, but Vienna still holds a special place in my heart. In this blog, I'll dive into Vienna's vibrant vibe, its pros and cons, and offer an honest look at studying and living in this incredible city. I'll also share some personal insights and recommendations. So, grab a coffee, and let's explore Vienna together!

My new home
I moved to Vienna in August-September 2021, having stayed a year in Berlin before. My love for Austria had been strong—a spoon-fed love nurtured by countless ski trips with my parents over many, many years. It was unbelievable for me to arrive in such a fantastic city; it felt like a childhood dream come true. The novelty was exciting. I've always considered Vienna a special place in my heart. The very idea of living here probably impressed me more than anything else. I moved to Vienna to study at the Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien and was very enthusiastic about this adventure. It was highly motivating to move with my best friend, Marina, which made the step so much easier; therefore, we were just overly excited about a new chapter in our lives. With her by my side, everything seemed surmountable; one felt many things were bearable, and in no time, we were looking forward to our new life in this beautiful city.

Of course, Vienna immediately lived up to all my expectations, and during the first few months, I was in a constant state of euphoria. All the paperwork was surprisingly quick and smooth, allowing me to dive right into my studies. This marked the beginning of my two-year journey as a resident of Vienna, during which I gained incredibly valuable experiences. Now, more than half a year after moving from Austria to New Zealand, I am finally ready to share those experiences.

Creating Natural Looking Artificial Lighting
A typical studio lighting configuration will consist of a fill source to control shadow tone, a single frontal key light to create the highlight modeling clues on the front of the object facing the camera over the shadows the fill illuminates, one or more rim/accent lights to create separation between foreground and background, and one or more background lights to control the tone of the background and separation between it and the foreground.
There are two significant differences between natural lighting and artificial sources. One is the character of the fill and the other is a more rapid fall-off in intensity. In nature, skylight fill is omni-directional and usually brighter from above. That "wrap around" characteristic is difficult to duplicate with a directional artificial source.
